NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND MEDIA AND COURT ORDERS:
The case People of the State of California v. Melissa Huckaby (case number SF112495A) has been scheduled for Monday, June 14, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. for sentencing and 1:30 p.m. for non-party media motions and various responses to those motions in Department 34 of the main Stockton Courthouse located at 222 E. Weber Avenue, Stockton, CA 95202.
Please see the attached orders and rules: the court’s local rule 1-107 regarding media coverage, order regarding media activity in public areas in the courthouse issued on April 13, 2009, and order issued on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 for both hearings scheduled for Monday, June 14, 2010.
Pool cameras will be admitted into the courtroom starting at 7:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Based on the media requests received by the court, pool arrangements shall be worked out amongst those media organizations listed after each type of pool. Once it has been determined which organization has been chosen for each type of pool, contact Sharon Morris, Assistant Court Executive Officer at (209)468-2971. The media organization chosen for each type of pool will be admitted and allowed to gather images and sound.
- Two (2) TV pool cameras (one 16x9 and one 4x3) – To be determined amongst the following media organizations who filed media requests: KTXL Fox40, KGO-TV Ch 7, KCRA Ch 3, KXTV News10, and NBC Network News Today Show
- One (1) still photograph camera –Bay Area News Group
- One (1) video camera for newspapers – Stockton Record
No live transmission will be allowed.
NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC:
Due to limited courtroom seating, there will be a drawing held at the courthouse for the remaining audience seats. A drawing will be held for each hearing and new tickets for entry into the courtroom will be issued.
- Members of the public are to check-in on Monday, June 14th at 7:45 a.m. for the sentencing hearing and 12:45 p.m. for the hearing on motions at the Clerk’s Office (Room 303 - Third Floor).
- At the time of check-in, one ticket per person present will be issued.
- A drawing will take place at 8:00 a.m. for the sentencing hearing and 1:00 p.m. for the hearing on motions at the Clerk’s Office (Room 303 - Third Floor).
- Tickets must be presented prior to entering the courtroom and ticket numbers will be checked against the master list.
- Entry into the courtroom will begin after the media have been seated.
NOTICE TO THE MEDIA:
11 seats have been designated for local media organizations. Each organization has been allotted one seat. They are as follows:
- Stockton Record
- Tracy Press
- San Joaquin Herald
- Sacramento Bee
- KOVR-TV (local CBS affiliate)
- KCRA-TV (local NBC affiliate)
- KXTV-TV News10 (local ABC affiliate)
- KTXL-Fox40 (local FOX affiliate)
- Univision, Channel 19
- KFBK Radio
- Sketch Artist
For each local organization listed above, the reporter who will be sitting in court on Monday will need to come to the Clerk’s Office (Room 303 - Third Floor) at 7:45 a.m. for the sentencing hearing and 12:45 p.m. for the hearing on motions check-in. If the reporter does not check in by the drawing time (8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.), the seat saved for the organization will be added to the drawing and filled by another media organization.
An additional 7 seats will be designated through a drawing held at the courthouse. A separate drawing will be held for each hearing and new tickets will be issued for entry into the courtroom. Those media organizations interested in having a guaranteed courtroom seat for one of their journalists should follow the below procedures:
- Send one representative from your organization to check-in on Monday, June 14th at 7:45 a.m. for the sentencing hearing and 12:45 p.m. for the hearing on motions at the Clerk’s Office (Room 303 - Third Floor).
- At the time of check-in, the representative will exchange a business card for a ticket. Only one ticket per media organization will be issued. The representative will need to provide the name of the journalist who will be sitting in court.
- The drawing will take place at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. 7 tickets will be drawn.
- Journalists will need to show their media credentials to enter the courtroom, which will be checked against the list of those organizations chosen through the drawing. More details to come.
Parking for media will be available in Hunter Square (U-shaped parking lot in front of the courthouse entrance). Your media credentials will be needed to park in this designated area.
