Traffic Violations, Proof of Correction, and Proof of Insurance

TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS:

  1. Brake lamp, smog device or muffler violations may be certified as corrected by any station licensed to inspect and certify for the violation.
  2. Driver's license and registration violations may be certified as corrected by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  3. Any violation, except Insurance charges, may be certified as corrected by a police department, the California Highway Patrol, Sheriff, or other law enforcement agency regularly engaged in enforcement of the provisions of the California Vehicle Code.

PROOF OF CORRECTION:

Proof of correction may consist of a certification by an authorized representative of one of the agencies listed above.

PLEASE NOTE THAT PROOF OF CORRECTION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE SUPERIOR COURT. YOU CAN PAY THE LOWER BAIL WITH PROOF OF CORRECTION. THIS AMOUNT IS LOCATED ON YOUR COURTESY NOTICE. IF YOU DO NOT GET YOUR CITATION SIGNED OFF BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, YOU MUST PAY THE HIGHER BAIL.

Some violations are dismissed upon proof of correction with payment of an Administrative Fee. Please check your Courtesy Notice. Other violations may require additional posting of bail. Your courtesy notice will inform you of what is required in your case.

PROOF OF INSURANCE:

To be eligible for a dismissal of failure to provide proof of financial responsibility, you must show vailid proof of insurance that reflects you had insurance on the date you received your citation.

Proof of insurance obtained after the date of your citation will reduce the bail due on this section.

Proof of insurance consists of:

  1. Insurance Agent Name
  2. Police Number
  3. Effective Date
  4. Expiration Date
  5. Defendant's name or vehicle license number

OR
A note from the insurance company on letterhead paper with the above information.

OR
If self-insured, the certificate of deposit number issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
